Challenge

Hemophilia is an inherited chronic disease that affects blood clotting and can cause bleeding, generating more complications regarding pain and mobility, limiting activity in daily life. This lack of activity sometimes leads to a negative effect on the prescribed treatment.

In this case, the challenge we faced was promoting the practice of safe physical activity for the hemophiliac patient.

Solution

First, we organized the participation of a multidisciplinary advisory committee, coordinated by two reference leaders, who were in charge of writing the pertinent recommendations. To make this valuable information accessible, we present HEMOFIT, a web for hemophiliac patients, relatives, caregivers, and trainers, whose mission is to learn the available options for encouraging physical activity, safely, adjusted to the disease, age, and particular circumstances of each individual.

The platform consists of a theoretical section, which reports on the benefits, risks, and precautions to be aware of and a practical session, destined to show, through videos and brochures, specific exercises to practice.

To promote the use of the platform, we simultaneously developed the “Active Days” initiative, a space designed to add steps in support of the disease, in which participants can show their commitment by enjoying various sports activities.

Results

The first Activa Conference was held internally, to involve workers in the initiative. This point was very well received and had almost full participation.

The platform is already available to provide useful information about physical exercises available to patients on days of confinement.
