Challenge

Infectious diseases constitute a dynamic and changing area of medicine that remains a cause of significant morbidity and mortality. Although in our environment they have decreased, some we believed are under control have reappeared. This revitalization, its high variability, and heterogeneity, with the absence of own medical specialty, generate the need for specialized training for the doctors involved in the treatment of these pathologies.

Solution

For this reason, we have launched the first edition of the Master in Infectious Diseases at the University of Alcalá. Comprehensive training from a modern perspective, where the clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive aspects of infectious diseases are addressed with special emphasis on the most practical aspects of their management.

The course is divided into 8 online modules, each one coordinated by a physician relating to the Service Infectious Diseases of the Hospital Ramón y Cajal. To facilitate complete learning is held an interactive clinical case session within each module.

Results

In this first edition, which began in November 2020, we had the participation of 50 students, including internists, microbiologists, and other specialists in infectious diseases, who will acquire solid and up-to-date knowledge, essential to achieve clinical and therapeutic control of infectious pathology.
